Great Mosque of Demak
The Great Mosque of Demak is the oldest mosque in Java, built by the Wali Songo in 1478 during the reign of Sultan Patah, and still standing strongly until now. This mosque is a cultural heritage which has historical and archaeological value. Architecturally, one of the privileges of this mosque lies on a shape of three-level pyramid roof; what makes it typical for mosques in Java that it indicates about the akidah Islamiyah consists of faith, Islam, and ihsan. It has four pillars, one of which is allegedly made from tatal (pieces of wood).
Great Mosque of Demak is located at Jl. Raden Patah, a main road that is accessible from the highway of Semarang – Surabaya. On the north side of the mosque, visitors can go on a pilgrimage to the tombs of royal family members.
Tomb of Sunan Kalijaga
Sunan Kalijaga is one of the nine guardians who spread Islam in the land of Java for the first time. It is located at Jl. R. Sahid, Kadilangu ± 1.5 km to eastern part of Demak and visited by pilgrims, especially at night of Friday Kliwon.
